Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson says Ghana has already achieved its statutory public debt target of 45 percent of GDP, ahead of both the government’s timetable and the International Monetary Fund programme schedule.
Presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review in Parliament, Dr. Forson said the achievement reflects the country’s improving macroeconomic position.
He also announced that inflation continued to ease, falling from 5.4 percent at the end of 2025 to 5.3 percent by June 2026.
According to the Finance Minister, the latest indicators point to sustained economic stability as government continues implementing its fiscal programme.
“We have already achieved Ghana’s statutory debt target of 45 percent of GDP ahead of both the IMF programme timeline and the government’s own target,” Dr. Forson told Parliament.
