The 93-year-old founder of St. Martin de Porres School, Mrs Florence Laast, shared why people call her “evergreen,” saying she has no specific secret to looking youthful at her age.
In an interview with Kafui Dey, Mrs Laast explained that the nickname came about because people often tell her she does not look her age and carries herself like a young girl.
“Some people call me evergreen because they say I do not look my age and that I am always like a young girl,” she said.
She said Mr Eric Nortey gave her the name.
Reflecting on how she has remained active at 93, Mrs. Laast said she could not identify any particular practice responsible for her youthful appearance. Instead, she continues with her usual daily activities, including doing things at home, going out, meeting people, talking and laughing.
“How I look young and fresh at 93 is a question I have not been able to answer because I don’t see anything particular that I can put my finger on and say is the reason,” she explained.
Mrs. Laast also spoke about her eating habits, revealing that she has never followed a diet and prefers to eat according to her appetite.
“I have never been on a diet. I eat when I’m hungry and feel like eating. If I don’t feel like eating, I don’t force myself,” she stated.
