No poll is better than the vote outcome – Dr Bomfeh argues

Dr. Kwabena Bomfeh Jnr, a lecturer at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has said that while polls can provide guidance, they are not a substitute for actual election outcomes.

Speaking during a panel discussion on Newsfile on JoyPrime, monitored by MyNewsGh, he said, “Polls are good to the extent that they serve as guides, but I maintain that there is no better poll than the vote outcome.”

He added that while polls can be useful for scientific research, they can also be influenced by agendas.

“Every poll is either designed to know the thinking of the people or to sway voters in a certain direction. The important thing is how scientific, thorough, and rigorous it can be,” he said.

Dr. Bomfeh Jnr also cautioned about the “dark side of data.” He explained, “What I tell you today may be different from what I tell someone else, because I understand what they are looking for. We need to be mindful of that.”

He emphasized that unity within political parties is crucial, especially as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) approaches its presidential primaries on January 31.

“Unity is what everybody must prioritize, not only within the MPP but overall.

“What will become of the party after January 31 depends on how the members conduct themselves before, during, and after that day,” he said.
