Deputy National Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has expressed confidence in his party’s chances in the ongoing Ayawaso East by-election.
Speaking in an interview with Adom News shotrly before the closure of today’s by-election at Ayawso East, Gbande described the voting as calm and orderly.
“Everybody knows and understands that the Nima election is a family affair. So the exercise has been peaceful,” he said.
He added that members of the New Patriotic Party were present mainly to escort their counterparts. “The NPP only came to escort us,” Gbande remarked. According to him, the police have also played a role in maintaining order throughout the exercise.
Gbande acknowledged that by-elections often record low voter turnout but maintained that the NDC remains confident of a strong showing. “By-elections usually have low turnout. But at the end of the day, the NDC candidate will be declared 80%,” he stated.
Meanwhile, voting in the Ayawaso East parliamentary by-election has officially ended, with electoral officials now sorting and counting ballots at polling stations across the constituency.
Polling began at 7:00 a.m. and closed at 5:00 p.m.
