The National Democratic Congress candidate in the Ayawaso East by-election, Baba Jamal, has stated that the Ayawaso East by-election is a done deal (cool chop), tourting his credntials as the major factor.
Furthermore, he said decision to contest, having resigned from his post as the Ambassador to Nigeria, is rooted in service rather than personal gain.
Speaking to the media at one of the voting centres after polls closed at 5pm, he said, “I am not motivated by materialistic things. I am motivated by human service. And that is why I am here to serve my people.”
Baba Jamal referred to his previous work in Akwatia, expressing confidence in his ability to deliver if elected. “I’ve done it before in Akwatia, and I know I will do it better in East Ayawaso,” he noted.
On expectations regarding the results, he maintained that the final outcome rests with God. “As I said, God makes kings. So the percentage will be determined by Allah. We have prayed that we should have a high percentage, but it is in the hands of Allah, and Allah will determine it,” he said.
Addressing the candidacy of his opponent, Sanda, he described him as a familiar figure but disagreed with his decision to contest. “Sanda is our brother, but he’s taking a wrong route. We gave him all the opportunity. Unfortunately, he decided to contest,” he stated.
Despite this, Baba Jamal emphasized that he welcomes competition. “It is a contest. I’m a democrat, a typical politician and a typical democrat. So I welcome the contest. Let him also try. We are all trying, and we will see what Allah will do for us,” he added.
