CPP Communicator Kwame Jantuah has stated that Ghana is wasting enormous quantities of rainwater while simultaneously facing water shortages.
The CPP member suggested that the country should revisit practices that were once common in many households.
“I remember when I was growing up, almost every home used to have a rain gutter and a tank,” he said on TV3’s New Day programme.
According to him, mandatory rainwater harvesting could reduce pressure on water resources while also helping manage excess stormwater during heavy rains.
He questioned why many households now depend heavily on boreholes while rainwater collection systems have largely disappeared.
“Shouldn’t that be a policy? Every house should harvest water,” he argued.
Jantuah believes better water management can become part of a broader strategy to reduce flooding while improving water availability for homes and communities.
