The Chief Executive Officer of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has been suspended for two weeks with immediate effect following the hospital’s announcement suspending admissions of new emergency cases.
The directive was issued by the Minister for Health under Section 36(1) of the Ghana Health Service and Teaching Hospitals Act, 1996 (Act 526).
According to the minister, the CEO admitted during a meeting on June 4 that the decision to announce the suspension of emergency admissions was made in contradiction to a clear directive from President John Mahama.
“He acted contrary to the clear directives of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana,” the minister stated.
The CEO is expected to report directly to the minister after serving the suspension.
