Why Mahama should sack Bagbin immediately – Solomon Owusu

Solomon Owusu has renewed his call for Speaker Alban Bagbin to be removed, blaming him for the controversy that has erupted over the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile, the United Party communicator revealed that he had already called for Bagbin’s removal earlier in the week and was maintaining that position.

“I think I called for his removal on Thursday, and I did so also on Wednesday on TV3, and I’m doing so this morning,” Owusu said.

He accused the Speaker of creating confusion around a bill that Parliament had already passed.

“If there is any controversy surrounding the LGBTQ passage, it’s been brought in by the utterance of the Speaker, and I thought that was needless,” he argued.

Owusu’s criticism comes after Bagbin directed Parliament to revisit discussions on the legislation, saying he had expected lawmakers to begin consideration of the bill rather than complete its passage before adjournment.

The Speaker has also called for broader consultation and consensus-building because of the bill’s significance and public interest.

Owusu, however, believes Bagbin’s intervention has become the main source of the current dispute and says the Speaker’s conduct warrants serious scrutiny.
