Did Mills win before becoming President? Solomon Owusu asks critics

United Party Director of Communications Solomon Owusu has challenged claims that Alan Kyerematen cannot win a presidential election because he has never won an election before, arguing that Ghana’s political history does not support that line of reasoning.

Speaking on Joy Prime, Mr Owusu rejected comments made by NPP Communications Team Member Awal Mohammed, who had suggested that Alan Kyerematen lacks the electoral credentials needed to win a national contest.

Owusu pointed to former President John Evans Atta Mills as an example, questioning whether previous election victories should be used as a benchmark for presidential success.

“He talks about Alan not going to win an election because he has never won an election. What election did President Mills win before he became president?” he asked.

He continued, “Was President Mills ever a winner of any election before he became president? Did he ever contest any election before he became president?”

According to Owusu, dismissing Alan Kyerematen’s chances solely on the basis of his electoral record ignores political realities and the paths taken by previous national leaders.

“He’s telling you that Alan has never won any election. Even if you pair him with anyone, he will still lose. No, that argument doesn’t hold,” he said.
