We would have loved to have Otto Addo at the World Cup – Henry Asante Twum

Ghana Football Association Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has revealed that the association would have preferred Otto Addo to lead the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but said poor results forced a change in direction.

The GFA subsequently appointed experienced Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz on a short-term deal to lead the team at the tournament.

“We would have loved to have the coach (Otto Addo) who qualified us for the World Cup, but unfortunately, the results were not looking good, and after the search period, we appointed Carlos Queiroz as the new coach for the Black Stars,” Asante Twum told DW TV.

“He is very experienced, and that is what we needed at this moment,” he added.

Ghana will compete in Group L at the World Cup alongside Panama, England, and Croatia as they seek to reach the knockout stage for the first time since 2010.
