Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has made an emotional appeal to Ghanaians to stay united and support the national team ahead of their opening match against Panama at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In a statement titled “My People,” the Ghana football legend described the Black Stars as the pride of the nation and the country’s “only product.”
“The Black Stars are our brand. Our pride. Our only product. To the 26 warriors named for the World Cup: Congratulations. The nation believes in you. I believe in you, just like my golden generation believed in the Blazers,” part of the statement read.
Gyan called on Ghanaians at home and abroad to put aside their differences and support the team. He said football has a special ability to bring the country together.
“To Ghana and all Ghanaians in the diaspora: let’s put our differences behind us, football is the greatest game ooo that unites us, let’s come together once again and give ultimate support to the Black Stars. We have another opportunity to market the Ghana brand through the World Cup, let’s do it again.”
He also stressed that strong support from Ghanaians will be important as the Black Stars try to showcase Ghana to the world and strengthen the country’s football reputation.
