Miracles Aboagye insists electricity tariffs rose by 28.2% in 12 months

Former presidential staffer Dennis Miracles Aboagye has defended his claim that electricity tariffs increased by 28.2 percent over a 12-month period, disputing a fact-check that put the figure at 18.5 percent.

In a statement, Aboagye said, “In 12 months, this government increased electricity by 28.2% and that is a FACT.”

He argued that those challenging his figures had used a nine-month period instead of the full 12 months he referenced.

“FACT, FACT, FACT, the NDC in 12 months, increased electricity by 28.2% which is four quarters. They increased it by 18.5% in nine months which is three quarters,” he stated.

According to him, the government’s first electricity tariff increase was announced in April 2025, while his original post on the matter was made in March 2026, covering four quarters of adjustments, including the first quarter of 2026.

Aboagye said, “By the time I was making my post in March 2026, four announced increases had kicked in.”

He also called on the government to reconsider any planned tariff increase from July 1.

“If the NDC or the lady are mindful of the exact details in my post, they would have saved themselves the stress and rather focus on abandoning the idea of increasing electricity tariffs again on 1st July. The burden is too much on the citizens,” he said.

Aboagye further maintained that he had already clarified the basis of his calculations when contacted by a fact-checking organisation.

“They are wrong, I am correct,” he added.
