An international relations and security expert, Prof Vladimir Antwi-Danso as said it’s a good idea for Ghana and other African countries to boycott South African goods and services over recent xenophobic protests.
He said such measures are not appropriate at this stage and argued that diplomatic options have not been exhausted.
“I wouldn’t recommend it at all. We haven’t reached a point where we need to use other tools in the diplomatic box to force South Africa to listen to us,” he stated on JoyNews.
Prof Antwi-Danso added that the situation does not amount to a targeted attack on Ghana alone, noting that other African nationals are also affected.
“You see, we cannot do that because it is not a specific attack on Ghana per se. In fact, the whole of other African citizens are suffering this,” he said.
He further urged caution in responding to the situation, stressing the need for careful assessment before any action is taken.
“And so it is something which we need to study very well and not do anything,” he added.
