Kofi Bentil demands action within three months over Ghanaian killings

Vice President of IMANI Africa Kofi Bentil has accused South African authorities of failing to properly investigate the killing of Ghanaians and other attacks on foreign nationals in the country.

He said the handling of recent cases raised concerns about the seriousness of investigations.

“I think the South African authorities are complicit because clearly they are not interested in getting to the bottom of these matters,” he said on TV3’s Key Points on July 4.

He pointed to what he described as errors in the identification of victims.

“Somebody dies and even the name of the person, you are not interested in getting it right,” he stated.

Bentil said Ghana should move beyond statements and issue a clear ultimatum to South Africa.

“We want to see arrests. We want to see people brought to book, or in the next three months we will suspend diplomatic relations with you,” he said.

“It doesn’t make sense to have friendship with somebody who is killing your people,” he added.
