Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called on the Ghana Police Service and the Attorney-General to discontinue the prosecution of an NDC organiser in Agona West, saying he neither filed a complaint nor authorised any legal action.
In a statement, Dr. Bawumia said, “I have neither lodged any complaint nor sanctioned any prosecution against this young man or any other citizen. I do not desire, and will not endorse, the arrest or prosecution of any Ghanaian in my name for speech.”
He urged the authorities to discontinue the case and release the accused.
“The answer to offensive speech is better speech, and the answer to falsehood is truth, not handcuffs, courtrooms, and crushing bail conditions imposed on ordinary Ghanaians,” he said.
Dr. Bawumia added that he had forgiven the young man and urged political actors to focus on issues affecting Ghanaians rather than personal attacks.
