The Coalition of Unemployed Graduates with Disabilities has given the government a one-week ultimatum to employ its members who applied during the recent Ghana Education Service (GES) recruitment exercise.
In a statement issued on Monday, August 3, the coalition said it would begin a full-scale occupation of Jubilee House, the Ministry of Finance and the GES headquarters if its members were not absorbed.
The group also called on the government to remove the Minister for Education and the Director-General of the GES, accusing them of failing to implement the government’s directive to reserve at least 5% of public sector recruitment for persons with disabilities.
According to the coalition, it submitted a verified list of 200 qualified graduates with disabilities for consideration during the recruitment exercise, but none of them was employed.
“Not a single member from our submitted list was recruited,” the coalition said.
The group said about 7,000 people were recruited by the GES, adding that a 5% quota should have resulted in at least 350 placements for persons with disabilities.
