You might think it is just an energy drink, but it contains substances – Dr Apaak warns parents

Deputy Minister of Education Dr Clement Apaak believes the use of narcotics and unapproved substances among young people is one of the challenges affecting students.

His comments follow reports that some students of Obuasi Senior High Technical School allegedly assaulted the headmaster of the school after claims that a baby’s body had been buried on the school campus.

Speaking on Citi News, Dr Apaak said substance use among young people is an issue that requires attention from parents, schools and communities.

“We also have the incessant danger of the use of narcotics and other unapproved medical substances. This is a very serious issue that is also plaguing our youth,” he said.

He warned that some products consumed by young people may contain substances beyond what many people assume.

“You see them holding these energy drinks, and you might think that it is just an energy drink. But that is a potent concoction of a combination of all kinds of substances,” he stated.

Dr Apaak urged parents to become more involved in monitoring their children’s actions and responses to allegations of misconduct.

He said parents should not automatically defend their children when concerns are raised, but should take steps to understand the issues and address them.
