Ghana finally gets a substantive Defence Minister

President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has appointed a defence minister one year after the demise of Dr Omane Boamah.

In the latest appointments announced by the President, Works and Housing Minister, Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Defence, while Ahmed Ibrahim, MP, has been moved to the Ministry of Works, Housing, and Water Resources.

Kenneth Gilbert Adjei will have Brogya Genfi as his deputy.

Parliament will have to scrutinize the nominations before his appointment is confirmed.

Ghana’s Finance Minister, Ato Forson PhD, has been acting as minister since the demise of Dr Omane Boamah in the helicopter crash that took the lives of eight Ghanaians.

Although there were calls on the president to appoint someone to handle the ministry, the president insisted that he was not in a rush to replace Dr Omane Boamah.
