Cameroon knocks Nigeria out of WAFCON 2026

The Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon have knocked defending champions Nigeria out of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Cameroon defeated Nigeria 1-0 in their quarter-final match in Morocco, ending the Super Falcons’ hopes of defending their title.

Nigeria were also hoping to secure an automatic place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. However, the defeat means they will now have to go through the play-offs for a chance to qualify.

Cameroon and Nigeria last met at the WAFCON in 2022. The Super Falcons won that match and went on to reach the semi-finals.

This time, Cameroon got the better of their West African rivals.

The result means Cameroon have reached the WAFCON semi-finals and are also on course for a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Nigeria, meanwhile, will have to fight through the play-offs if they are to secure their place at next year’s World Cup.
