Japanese-born Ghanaian goalkeeper undergoes Aston Villa medical

Japanese goalkeeper of Ghanaian descent Zion Suzuki is undergoing his medical at Aston Villa ahead of his expected move from Parma.

The Premier League club have reportedly agreed a €30 million deal with Parma for the 23-year-old, with another €5 million available in add-ons.

Suzuki has also agreed personal terms with Aston Villa and is expected to sign a five-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2031.

The move comes after Villa’s proposed transfer for Emiliano Martinez to Juventus collapsed, forcing the club to look for another goalkeeper.

Suzuki was reportedly Villa’s preferred target, and the club moved quickly to secure his services.

The Japan international was previously close to joining Paris Saint-Germain after the French club agreed a potential €35 million deal with Parma.

Suzuki was expected to travel to Paris for his medical, but the transfer collapsed following disagreements over commission demands from his representatives.
