Senior Lecturer Prof. Solomon Kwarteng Forkuoh has questioned Sammy Gyamfi’s suitability to lead the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), arguing that good intentions alone are insufficient to manage an institution of such importance.
Speaking in an interview on Angel FM, Kumasi, Prof. Forkuoh acknowledged that Sammy Gyamfi may have the best interests of GoldBod at heart but said he lacks the experience required for the role.
“Sammy Gyamfi might have the best interests of GoldBod at heart, but he is inexperienced,” he stated.
According to the lecturer, institutions such as GoldBod require individuals with relevant technical and practical experience, particularly given the importance of gold trading to Ghana’s economy.
“We need experienced people at such places, but because of politicisation they have just put anyone there and they do not know what they are doing,” he said.
Prof. Forkuoh questioned Sammy Gyamfi’s professional experience in gold trading and how that experience prepared him to lead the country’s major gold agency.
“When did we see Sammy Gyamfi selling gold? For him to lead Ghana’s big gold agency, and to sell gold?” he asked.
He argued that political affiliation should not be the primary consideration when appointing individuals to specialised public institutions, stressing the importance of competence and sector-specific expertise.
