GFA to appoint local coach as new Black Stars coach – Report

The Black Stars of Ghana are currently without a substantive head coach following the expiry of Carlos Queiroz’s short-term contract.

The veteran Portuguese coach signed a four-month deal in April ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, replacing Otto Addo, who was dismissed in March.

According to a source, if noting major changes in the coming few days, then the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is set to appoint Belgian-Ghanaian tactician Desmond Ofei as the new Black Stars head coach ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The GFA is believed to view Ofei as a coach who can bring greater tactical discipline and structure to the senior national team.

Ofei would take charge with valuable experience from Ghana’s youth teams. The former Black Satellites coach has enjoyed success at U-20 level and has also worked with the U-23 team.

He currently serves as an assistant coach of the Black Stars and could now be handed the opportunity to lead the senior national team.
