Black Starlets begin U-17 AFCON qualification campaign against Togo

The Black Starlets will begin their bid to qualify for the 2027 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations when they face Togo in their opening game of the WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship on October 10, 2026.

The match will be played at the 4th August Sports Stadium in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, with Ghana hoping to make a strong start under head coach Kasim Ocansey Mingle.

Ghana will play their second Group B game against Benin on October 13 before facing hosts Burkina Faso in their final group game on October 16.

The WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship is also the qualifying tournament for the 2027 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be hosted by Morocco.

The Black Starlets must reach the final of the WAFU Zone B competition to qualify for the tournament, as only the two finalists will earn tickets to the 2027 U-17 AFCON.

Ghana have been preparing for the competition following a nationwide scouting and screening exercise led by Mingle.

The coach focused on players born in 2010 as he looks to build a strong squad for the regional tournament.

The Black Starlets will now prepare for their matches against Togo, Benin and hosts Burkina Faso as they fight for a place at next year’s continental tournament.
