The death of a young friend was another major event that influenced Bernice Offei’s ‘Life Is Short,’ the late gospel music legend revealed in a throwback interview.
Offei said she lost the young friend shortly before recording the song, adding that he was a student at Archimedes School.
“The other interesting thing about this song is that just before I recorded it, I lost a young friend of mine, who was then a student at Archimedes School,” she said.
According to Offei, the young student was part of a group of students she had been following up in their house after she visited one evening to share the word of God with them.
“He was one of a group of students that I was following up in the house after I had been there one evening to share the word of God with him,” she recalled.
Offei said the loss came shortly before she recorded “Life Is Short,” adding another personal experience to the inspiration behind the song.
The gospel musician also connected the song to her belief that life on earth is limited and that people should live with the understanding that they will one day give an account of their lives.
“I do hope that when that day comes, you will be ready to meet the Lord,” she said.
