Police to start issuing electronic traffic violation notices from October 1

Ghana Police say they will begin full implementation of its automated traffic law enforcement programme, TRAFFITECH-GH, from October 1, 2026.

The programme, being implemented through the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), will use cameras and Personal Data Assistant (PDA) devices to detect traffic offences and enforce road traffic regulations.

Under the system, detected offences will be reviewed before Electronic Notices of Violation (ENV) are issued to vehicle owners or drivers through SMS.

The electronic notice will state the traffic offence committed and the prescribed fine.
