The Black Queens produced an impressive performance to beat Mauritius 7-0 in the second leg of the second round of qualifiers for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games at the Essipong Stadium on Tuesday.
The victory gave Ghana a 10-0 aggregate win after their 3-0 victory in the first leg in Mauritius last Thursday.
Head coach Kim Lars Björkegren’s team dominated the match from start to finish, using their speed, strength and accuracy in front of goal to trouble the visitors.
Captain Portia Boakye opened the scoring before Evelyn Badu added the second goal. Ajegipina Zakaria then scored Ghana’s third goal to give the Queens a 3-0 lead at half-time.
Ghana continued to put pressure on Mauritius after the break, and the substitutes also made an impact.
Benedicte Simon scored in the 73rd minute shortly after coming on. Jennifer Cudjoe added the fifth goal in the 87th minute, before Nancy Amoh and Mukarama Abdulai scored late goals to complete the 7-0 victory.
The result highlights Ghana’s determination to qualify for the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament for the first time.
The Black Queens have now advanced to the third round of the qualifiers as they continue their bid to secure a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
