The Black Starlets have qualified for the semi-finals of the 2026 WAFU B U-17 Championship after beating Benin 3-1 to record their second straight win in the tournament.
Coach Kassim Ocansey’s side made a strong start, taking the lead through Alidu Issah just four minutes into the match. The striker showed his sharp finishing to give Ghana an early advantage.
Issah scored again four minutes later, putting Ghana 2-0 ahead in the eighth minute. His two quick goals gave the Black Starlets control of the game.
Benin fought back and managed to score a goal to reduce the gap as the match continued. Ghana kept pushing forward while working to protect their lead.
Nii Odoi Tawiah then restored Ghana’s two-goal advantage with a well-taken finish after receiving a pass from Prince Apam.
The Black Starlets held on to win 3-1, with Issah’s two goals playing a key role in the victory.
The result strengthens Ghana’s campaign at the WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship, which serves as a qualifying tournament for the 2027 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
With a place in the semi-finals secured, Ocansey and his players will now aim to maintain their winning form as they continue their quest to qualify for the continental competition.
