Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Iddie Adams has justified allowing some junior staff to travel for the World Cup, arguing the opportunity should not be restricted to senior officials because watching the tournament does not require higher professional qualifications.
Hon Adams explained that some official training programmes are reserved for high-level management personnel, but he viewed the World Cup trip differently.
He said he believed junior employees also deserved the opportunity to participate because they were part of the workforce and contributed to the ministry’s operations.
“As for World Cup, it does not need any higher qualifications to go and watch, so I allowed some of these junior staff to also go,” he told the host on Accra-based Asempa FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com
Adams added that he considered it important to recognise junior staff members’ efforts rather than limiting such opportunities to senior personnel.
“It is good because they are also a part of us and are equally working hard,” he stated.
The minister said the arrangement was agreed upon before some of the staff members travelled as part of the delegation.
