Is this how to reset Ghana? – Mike Oquaye Jnr questions Mahama

New patriotic Party (NPP) member Mike Oquaye Jnr has accused President John Mahama’s administration of abandoning its reset promise, arguing that the appointment of Afi Agbenyo to the Electoral Commission undermines the government’s commitment to change.

Oquaye said the NDC had campaigned on a promise to reset Ghana rather than repeat practices it had criticised under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

“I am shocked because it smacks of not hypocrisy but inconsistency. What we have done wrong yesterday supposedly cannot be justified today by doing worse,” he said.

He questioned whether the appointment reflected the change the NDC promised voters, arguing that repeating practices it previously criticised could undermine public confidence in the government.

“Is that resetting? Is this how to reset by giving previous examples of how, and then this shall say that that’s your reset?” he asked on Metro TV.

Oquaye further challenged the government to explain how the appointment aligned with its campaign commitments.

He argued that the administration risked appearing no different from the government it replaced if it continued with practices it had previously condemned.

“What is bad yesterday and worse today can never be deemed as good or even best for that matter. It is totally unacceptable,” he said.
