Marriage Is Not Just About Vows at the Altar — Agradaa

Patricia Asiedu Oduro Koranteng, also known as Nana Agradaa, has stressed that marriage is not merely about making vows at the altar but about honouring those commitments through everyday actions.

Speaking on Promise Radio, Mama Pat said love, respect, patience, honesty and understanding must form part of how spouses treat each other throughout their marriage.

She explained that the way partners treat each other during the good times can influence how they respond when one of them later faces illness or other difficulties.

“When you treat your spouse well, and you fall ill later in life, there is a higher chance for your spouse to take care of you in that distress,” she said.

According to Mama Pat, however, persistent disrespect and poor treatment can contribute to situations where a spouse abandons or ignores their partner during difficult periods.

“But when you treat them with disrespect, that is when most people run away or ignore them when they go into trouble,” she added.

She therefore cautioned people against quickly judging the outcome of such situations without considering the relationship’s history.

“So people should not be quick to judge the outcomes in such situations,” she said.

Mama Pat likened marriage to planting a seed, explaining that how spouses treat each other can produce corresponding consequences.

“When you plant a good seed, it will grow in fruitfulness, but when you plant a bad seed, it will generate into destruction,” she said.

She stressed that the traditional marriage vow of “for better, for worse” means more than words, suggesting the commitment requires spouses to show love and responsibility beyond the wedding ceremony.

“Marriage is not just about making vows at the altar; it is about honouring those vows every day through love, respect, patience, honesty and understanding,” Mama Pat said.
