Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has vowed to name and shame any lawmaker who attempts to obstruct the passage of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025, popularly known as the Anti-LGBTQI+ Bill.
Addressing Parliament, Bagbin said he remained committed to ensuring that the House revisits its earlier decision at the third reading stage and undertakes a second consideration of the bill to conclude its passage during the current meeting.
He warned that any member who interferes with the legitimate parliamentary processes to get the bill passed would be publicly identified and left to account to their constituents.
“I’ll mention names, names of any person who tries to obstruct the legitimate processes to see this bill through. I’ll leave that to your constituents,” he said.
Bagbin acknowledged the considerable public attention surrounding the legislation, citing its cultural, constitutional, legal and social implications.
He assured lawmakers that he would work within the applicable rules and procedures of the House to facilitate the reconsideration of the bill and bring its processing to a conclusion.
The Speaker also called for scrutiny of Parliament’s Standing Orders.
