A Soldier Is a Soldier; You Cannot Challenge Him – Paul Yandoh on Military Deployment

Former NPP Communications Director Paul Yandoh has said the presence of soldiers during road construction can create fear and confusion among residents, explaining another reason he questioned their deployment.

Yandoh said military personnel have a different level of authority in communities, making it difficult for residents to challenge their actions.

“A soldier is a soldier; you cannot challenge him,” he said in an interview with Kumasi-based Owia TV.

He argued that this can create a power imbalance when soldiers are stationed in communities for road-related activities.

According to Yandoh, residents may feel intimidated by the presence of armed military personnel, particularly when there are unresolved issues involving land or compensation.

The current road project has also formally involved the military. President Mahama directed the Ministry of Roads and Highways to incorporate the Engineers Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces as a major subcontractor on the Accra-Kumasi Expressway.
