Bono Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has praised businessman Ibrahim Mahama for his development efforts in Damang, arguing that he has done more for the community than Newmont has done for Kenyasi in 22 years.
Speaking on Ohia TV Online, Abronye acknowledged the work Ibrahim Mahama has undertaken since his company, Engineers and Planners (E&P), took over the Damang Gold Mine in April 2026.
“If we’re being truthful, Ibrahim Mahama has done more for Damang in terms of development than Newmont has done for Kenyasi in its 22 years of operation,” he said.
The NPP regional chairman also praised Ibrahim Mahama’s efforts to improve infrastructure in Damang, contrasting them with what he described as Newmont’s failure to repair roads in Kenyasi despite its long period of operation.
“Ibrahim Mahama has done a good job at Damang Gold Mine,” Abronye stated.
The remarks highlight the contrast he sees between the development efforts of a Ghanaian-owned company and those of the American mining multinational, Newmont.
Abronye’s praise is notable given his position in the opposition NPP and Ibrahim Mahama’s relationship with his brother, President John Dramani Mahama.
However, the NPP chairman said he was simply acknowledging what he believed was evident from developments in Damang.
