Leading member of the United Party (UP), Andrew Appiah-Danquah, has criticised former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame over his reaction to the Court of Appeal’s decision to acquit former MASLOC CEO Sedina Tamakloe Attionu.
Appiah-Danquah said he found Dame’s comments lacking in integrity, despite respecting people’s right to express their opinions.
“I respect people who speak out of integrity. We may not necessarily agree, but at least you must respect the fact that he’s speaking from a position of integrity,” he said on TV3.
He, however, argued that the same could not be said about Dame’s comments.
“There’s a fundamental lack of integrity in the statement of Dame,” Appiah-Danquah stated.
His comments come after Dame criticised the Court of Appeal’s unanimous decision to overturn Sedina Tamakloe Attionu’s conviction and 10-year prison sentence, insisting the prosecution had proved her guilt beyond reasonable doubt during the High Court trial.
Appiah-Danquah maintained that while differing opinions are acceptable, public comments on judicial decisions should be guided by fairness and integrity.
