NPP communicator Awal Mohammed has compared criticism faced by former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia over his choice of footwear during a flood visit to reactions following President John Mahama and Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang’s participation in the national clean-up exercise.
In a Facebook post, Awal recalled that after floods affected parts of the country and displaced residents, Dr Bawumia visited affected communities to assess the situation and engage with victims.
He said the former Vice President wore sneakers during the visit, a decision that attracted criticism from some members of the public and social media users.
According to Awal, the same concerns were not raised after President Mahama and Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang took part in the national clean-up exercise without certain protective equipment.
He claimed the two leaders participated in sanitation activities without gloves or nose masks while working in areas with waste and drainage materials.
“Working in such unsanitary conditions without protective gear is highly hazardous to their health,” Awal wrote.
He questioned what he described as different reactions to the two situations, arguing that critics who questioned Dr Bawumia’s sneakers during the flood visit had overlooked the issue of safety during the clean-up exercise.
