The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, disclosed a personal family connection to Baba Jamal during the swearing-in ceremony of the new Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East.
Addressing members in the chamber before inviting parliamentary leaders to deliver welcoming remarks, the Speaker said he had given his daughter in marriage to Baba Jamal several years ago.
“I gave my daughter in marriage to him some years ago,” Bagbin told the House. “At that time he was a young boy. Now he’s grown.”
The Speaker also informed members that his daughter was present in the chamber during the proceedings.
“His wife, my daughter, is here,” he said. “Anywhere you see her, please, that’s my daughter. She’s now Mrs. Reena to Baba Jamal.”
Bagbin added that because of the family relationship, he would not participate further in remarks about the new member.
“So I don’t feature anywhere there now,” he said before inviting leaders from both sides of the House to formally welcome the Ayawaso East MP.
