Bagbin moves to advance anti-LGBT bill after financial review

Parliament is preparing to take up the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025, after the Speaker directed that it be placed on the agenda for the next sitting of the House.

Speaker Alban Bagbin instructed in a formal communication on Tuesday, February 10, stating that the proposed legislation has satisfied the required procedures under the Standing Orders and can now be scheduled for consideration.

“The bill has gone through all the processes in accordance with the Standing Orders of the House. I therefore direct that the bill be scheduled by the Business Committee to be presented to the House for consideration,” he said.

With the latest instruction, the next step is for the Business Committee to determine when the bill will be formally laid and debated by lawmakers.

That proposal had lapsed at the end of the previous Parliament and now requires fresh consideration.

The debate around the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill has been ongoing in Parliament for several sessions, with leadership consistently indicating that the measure has gone through the procedural stages required for legislative review.
