Ghana’s Black Maidens dismantled Liberia 6-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday in the first leg of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Under-17 Women’s World Cup qualifying series, seizing commanding control of the tie.
The hosts controlled the contest from the opening whistle, combining disciplined attacking movement with relentless pressure to render Liberia’s defensive structure ineffective throughout. The result leaves Ghana overwhelming favourites heading into the second leg.
Daniella Abass opened the scoring in the 31st minute after a sustained period of Ghanaian pressure finally broke Liberia’s resistance. The Black Maidens returned from the interval with greater intensity and doubled the lead in the 53rd minute when Seidatu Wahab converted confidently from the penalty spot.
The floodgates then opened in a breathtaking seven-minute stretch. Linda Achiaa added a composed third in the 57th minute, and Jessica Appiah extended the advantage to four just three minutes later with another incisive attacking move. Priscilla Mensah made it five in the 73rd minute before Mavis Yeboah completed the rout with a sixth goal deep into stoppage time.
The six-goal cushion gives the Black Maidens a near-insurmountable advantage ahead of the second leg as they close in on the next round of qualification.
