Ghana’s Black Queens got their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign off to a great start with a 2-0 win over tournament newcomers Cape Verde in their Group D opener at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca.
The Black Queens started brightly and took the lead in the sixth minute through Doris Boaduwaa.
Ghana continued to put Cape Verde under pressure and scored a second goal in the 53rd minute. Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah delivered a dangerous cross that forced defender Eleia Vieira to turn the ball into her own net.
The win gives the Black Queens a perfect start in Group D as they continue their bid to win their first Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title since 2006.
