Cocoa producer price rises to Ghc42,400 per tonne for 2026/27 season

COCOBOD has increased the producer price of cocoa to Ghc42,400 per tonne for the 2026/27 season, up from Ghc41,392.

The new price, announced by COCOBOD Chief Executive Dr Randy Abbey at the opening of the new cocoa season, takes effect from Friday, September 25, 2026. It means farmers will receive Ghc2,650 for a 64-kilogramme bag.

Dr Abbey said the new price represents 71.18% of the realised gross free-on-board value of cocoa and followed consultations with the Finance Ministry, cocoa farmers and the Chamber of Cocoa Marketers.

The increase gives farmers an additional GH¢1,008 per tonne compared with the 2025/26 producer price.

Dr Abbey also highlighted reforms under the Ghana Cocoa Board Act, 2026 (Act 1182), including a guarantee that farmers receive at least 70% of the realised gross FOB price.

The new law also strengthens protection for cocoa farms against illegal small-scale mining, introduces a financing framework to support domestic processing and bars COCOBOD from engaging in quasi-fiscal activities.

Dr Abbey said the reforms are aimed at improving farmers’ returns and strengthening the long-term sustainability of Ghana’s cocoa sector.
