Democracy will continue to attack you until you apologise – Franklin Cudjoe tells NPP

IMANI Africa President Franklin Cudjoe has criticised the New Patriotic Party’s planned “Democracy Under Attack” demonstration, arguing that the party cannot claim to be defending democracy without first accounting for its own record in government.

Reacting to the protest on social media, Cudjoe questioned the theme of the demonstration.

“What is the theme of the NPP’s planned protest again? ‘Democracy under attack’?” he wrote.

He accused the party of failing to speak up during the implementation of policies that he said negatively affected thousands of Ghanaians.

“You committed the most egregious sin against democracy, and you haven’t even apologized. Democracy will continue to attack you until you apologise!” Cudjoe stated.

He also criticised the NPP’s handling of the economy while it was in office, alleging that its economic management team harmed the savings and investments of many Ghanaians.

“We have not even added the highway pickpocketing of savings and investments of millions just to save what was left of a junk-rated economy,” he wrote.

The IMANI Africa president further expressed frustration that media coverage of the August 6 protest would force him to postpone a planned national discussion on plastic waste.

“Now I am forced to reschedule a more important national conversation on plastic waste to be aired on live TV and radio on August 6 because media plans to cover the unnecessary demo,” he said.

Cudjoe also suggested the demonstration would leave litter on the streets.

“The unnecessary demo… would leave behind piles of rubbish, including plastics on our streets, irresponsibly,” he added.

The NPP’s nationwide “Democracy Under Attack” demonstration is scheduled for Thursday, August 6.

Organisers say the protest is intended to highlight concerns over alleged political persecution and selective justice under the current administration.

The march will begin at the Supreme Court, proceed past the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and Jubilee House, and end at Parliament.
