Entertainment pundit Watomoto has urged fans of Ghanaian musician Mr Drew to understand the difference between themselves and artistes, while calling on the musician to be patient amid criticism and reports of declining followers.
Watomoto said fans should recognise that artistes occupy a different position from their audiences and should not expect musicians to respond to every demand from their followers.
He argued on Kumasi-based Angel Fm monitored by MyNewsGh.com that just as concert audiences understand that artistes and fans have different roles during performances, the same distinction should apply to their relationship outside the stage.
“Since they understand that during a concert, the artistes and themselves will not all stay on the stage but there are unique segmentations for everyone, they should also know that they are not the same as the artiste,” he said.
Watomoto also questioned why some fans expected Mr Drew to follow them on social media, arguing that the musician should not be pressured into doing so simply because he lives in the same area as them.
“We discuss popular American artistes like LilWin among others, but we do not expect them to follow us; because Mr Drew stays at Adenta in Accra, they want to disrespect him,” he stated.
He advised fans who expect Mr Drew to follow their accounts to first create content that would genuinely attract his attention.
“If they want him to follow them, they should produce content worth following,” Watomoto said.
Addressing reports of a decline in Mr Drew’s social media following, the entertainment pundit said the development did not surprise him, attributing it partly to the sensitivity of some social media users.
“The drop in his following is not new to me. Some followers are very sensitive, and the least thing said, they come to unfollow,” he noted.
Watomoto subsequently urged Mr Drew to remain patient and understand the dynamics of his relationship with fans as he navigates the controversy.
