Education Woes: Prof Addai-Mensah Wants Haruna Assessed

Senior Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology(KNUST), Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah, has urged the government to assess the performance of Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu amid persistent challenges in Ghana’s education sector, suggesting that President John Dramani Mahama should consider his options if the minister’s performance is undermining the government’s promises.

Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah said the decision on whether the minister should remain in office ultimately rests with the President, depending on his assessment of the minister’s delivery on the government’s educational commitments.

He argued that the President must decide whether the minister’s handling of the sector aligns with the promises made to Ghanaians or is harming the government’s standing.

Speaking on Kumasi-based Agenl Fm monitored by MyNewsGh.com, he said, “If the president thinks that the promises he made to Ghanaians on education are what Haruna Iddrisu is doing, then that’s fine”

However, Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah maintained that the President should take action if he believes the minister’s performance is weakening public confidence in the government.

“But if he thinks otherwise, that what the minister is doing is downgrading this government, then the president knows what to do,” he added.
