Elephants do not disappear because people stop looking – Kay Codjoe reacts to Miracles Aboagye case

Writer and IMANI Africa affiliate Kay Codjoe has reacted to the arrest of Dennis Miracles Aboagye by recalling previous allegations the NPP communicator made against him and Franklin Cudjoe.

In a social media post, Codjoe said Aboagye had previously accused him and Cudjoe of receiving government funds to mislead cocoa farmers, but noted that the evidence promised to support the claim was never provided.

“Only days ago, you accused Franklin Cudjoe and me of receiving government money to deceive cocoa farmers. It was a serious allegation. The promised evidence never arrived. Today, however, evidence has become indispensable,” he wrote.

Aboagye, a former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation, was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over allegations linked to his time at the committee.

Codjoe said he hoped Aboagye’s rights would be protected throughout the process and that the relevant institutions would handle the matter according to the law.

“Dennis, I hope your rights are fully respected. I hope EOCO proves its case or abandons it. I hope the courts faithfully apply the law,” he stated.

He added that public discussions around the case should not distract from broader questions about accountability and public resources.

“But I hope Ghanaians remember something after the headlines fade. Elephants do not disappear because people stop looking at them,” he said.

Codjoe also shared a response to a previous suggestion that legal action should have been taken against Aboagye over the alleged defamation, saying he preferred not to pursue the matter in court.

“I said let us not waste our time and money in court to make him an undeserving hero. Leave him to his own devices, they will catch up with him. I, too, wish him well,” he wrote.
