Emulate Mills’ Character, Not Just His Name – Sammi Awuku Tells NDC

Member of Parliament (MP) for the Akuapim North Constituency, Hon Sammi Awuku, has urged members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to emulate the values of the late former President John Evans Atta Mills, describing him as a leader who placed national unity above partisan politics.

Paying tribute to the late President in Parliament, Mr. Awuku said Prof. Mills tolerated opposing views and never regarded political opponents as enemies.

“He tolerated divergent views and never saw his political opponents as enemies,” he said.

According to him, Prof. Mills accepted criticism in good faith and remained committed to democratic principles throughout his presidency.

“He accepted criticisms in good faith and never imprisoned people he disagreed with,” he stated.

Mr. Awuku argued that the values demonstrated by the late President remain relevant today and should serve as a guide for current NDC officials and supporters.

“He is a man that modern-day NDC activists and officials must emulate,” he stressed.

He expressed hope that Prof. Mills’s legacy would continue to shape the governing party’s conduct.

“I pray that the legacy of Professor Mills can run through the veins of the NDC today and reflect in the governance of today’s NDC,” he added.
