Enough Talk  — Sulemana Braimah Demands Action in the Fight Against Corruption

Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa, Sulemana Braimah, says Ghanaians are interested in tangible results in the fight against corruption rather than conferences and the creation of more institutions.

Speaking on Newsfile, Braimah questioned whether the current institutional approach to fighting corruption is actually producing the desired results.

“People want results, not conferences,” he stated.

According to him, the continued existence of corruption despite the numerous institutions established to combat it should prompt the country to examine whether its anti-corruption architecture is working.

He said the focus should be on developing the political will and national structures required to effectively tackle corruption rather than simply creating institutions.

“For me it is about the will to stop corruption and the national architecture to deal with corruption,” he said.

Braimah cautioned that press conferences by institutions such as the Attorney General’s Department and the Office of the Special Prosecutor may ultimately achieve little if they are not accompanied by effective collaboration and successful prosecutions.

He urged the relevant institutions to focus on pursuing cases capable of producing concrete results for the country.
