EOCO justifies attempted arrest of Manhyia South MP

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has stated that its officers attempted to arrest Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah on September 23, 2026, as part of an ongoing investigation.

EOCO said it had invited the MP twice in February to assist with the investigation, but he did not honour the invitations.

The attempted arrest was not completed after officers assessed that further action could endanger public safety. EOCO said it has identified two people who allegedly intervened to facilitate the MP’s escape.

The Office also said it respects parliamentary privileges and will review the incident and available video evidence before deciding on its next steps.
