FDA Steps Up Market Surveillance, Seizes Unapproved Products

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has ramped up its market surveillance efforts, seizing numerous unapproved products from the Ghanaian market.

This intensified action follows the FDA’s recent sanctioning of over 100 manufacturing companies nationwide for unauthorized product advertising.

In a recent operation involving media representatives, James Aboakye, the team lead for Market Surveillance, urged the public to remain vigilant.

He emphasized the importance of thoroughly examining product details—including those related to food, medicine, and personal care items like shower gels—to ensure they meet FDA standards.

“We conduct market surveillance activities regularly as part of our ongoing efforts,” Aboakye explained.

“Based on our intelligence and schedules, we visit various districts and facilities, including pharmacies, marts, and shops.

We ensure that all products sold, particularly those regulated by the FDA, comply with established standards.”
