FIFA president Gianni Infantino is asking for help from US president Donald Trump as he tries to keep his position.
Infantino is facing pressure to leave his role after his plan to sell part of the World Cup to private investors failed.
The 56-year-old could have benefited from the “FIFA Forward Enterprise” plan, which was strongly opposed by other football organisations.
According to the New York Post, Infantino has contacted the Trump administration for support as he fights to remain FIFA president.
He has also arranged private talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio as he works to protect his position.
Infantino will hope Trump remembers his decision to overturn Folarin Balogun’s red card at the 2026 World Cup, a move that received heavy criticism from people in football.
