Presidential Aide for Government Communications, Dr. Sammy Ayeh, says the government has allocated GH¢400 million through an account at the Bank of Ghana toward the establishment of the proposed Women’s Development Bank.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Dr Ayeh said the allocation demonstrates the government’s commitment to fulfilling President John Dramani Mahama’s promise to establish a dedicated financial institution to support women.
“The Finance Ministry under the government of President John Dramani Mahama has allocated GH¢400 million in an account at the Bank of Ghana for the establishment of the Women Development Bank. So it is being done,” he stated.
According to him, the financial allocation is evidence that the government has moved beyond making a campaign promise and has begun taking steps toward establishing the bank.
“Government has demonstrated that they are going to build the Women Development Bank. It is a fact that President Mahama has delivered on that promise,” he said.
Dr. Ayeh said women across the country, including mothers who stand to benefit from the initiative, should recognise the government’s efforts toward fulfilling the promise.
He, however, urged the public to exercise patience, arguing that establishing a financial institution requires time and cannot reasonably be completed within a single year.
“A bank is not built in one year, so everyone should be patient,” he stated.
